Esteemed sponsors and interested parties,
Advent is a time in which friendships are increasingly cultivated. This also applies to our relationships with Uganda.
The third term has come to an end with the final examinations at the Beatrice Secondary School Kyankwanzi (BSSK). The national examinations took place successfully and without incidents. The results are expected in the second half of January 2016. We hope for good results for the candidates.
The 10th of October was a very festive day at the school. For one thing, the second girls’ dormitory was inaugurated, and for another thing it was visiting day. The new building was named “Laus Doeden Girls’ Dormitory” in remembrance of the Dutch missionary who worked in the local parish over 20 years ago. Regina owes her secondary education in a boarding school to this Laus Doeden. Her mother, solely responsible for eight children, would not have been able to afford a secondary education for the bright primary schoolgirl Regina. The prudent priest came to the rescue and paid the tuition fee for Regina and a few others. Out of gratitude and in remembrance of her sponsor, who died in 2005, Regina is keeping his good spirit alive in her school.
On this special day Regina not only invited the relatives of her students, but also interested parents and primary school leavers. Numerous photos (see “Development”, “Photo Gallery”) from this occasion show the variety of visitors. People were able to be fed without any problems thanks to the new kitchen facilities. But the new kitchen primarily yields advantages for everyday school life. Now – thanks to several cooking zones – the cook can cook a bean dish and a corn dish as well as water for tea at the same time. These amenities are highly appreciated.
Another rare event pleased our headmistress Regina. The cultural leader of the Buganda tribe, to which Regina also belongs, requested admittance to the dining hall to hold a major event there. It is a great honour to host this highly respected man. Many people came, including television media, which undoubtedly enhanced the degree of familiarity with the BSSK. The school’s multipurpose room is the only possibility in the greater vicinity to hold an event in dry conditions during the rainy season.
With this pleasant news we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy 2016.
