Dear sponsors and interested parties,
Progress continues at the BSSK. For several months now, it has been running the Beatrice Junior School, Ntwetwe, a primary school, which is situated around an hour’s drive from Kiboga. It was not a targeted search which brought this about, but the query of a prudent teacher from this city. Two years ago, Regina attended a ceremony there.
The present Beatrice Junior School was founded in 2006. In the past few years, the effects of mismanagement became increasingly apparent. The teachers received their salaries late or not at all, the teaching deteriorated, and parents began to worry about their children’s education. One day, a delegate arrived from the bank and declared the school closed due to unfulfilled financial obligations. The guilty principal had to step down; the teachers lost their job, and the children their school. In this difficult situation, an experienced teacher remembered Regina Nasseremba, director of the Beatrice Secondary School, Kyankwanzi. He paid her a visit and reported the matter to her. After careful consideration, Regina declared her willingness to reopen the school, which had been closed for half a year, under the auspices of the BSSK. What wonderful news! Everyone returned: first the teachers and little by little the two hundred children, accompanied by happy and thankful parents. This is really a good prerequisite for a successful school start.
The building progress at the Annina Hänny Schoolhouse at the Beatrice Secondary School, Kyankwanzi, is gratifying. At the end of June, the ground floor was concreted. Wet weather delayed the drying of the building. As soon as conditions improve, the building continues to grow. Originally, one expected there to be an interruption during this phase, but this would increase the risk of there being structural damage, and would put into question the inauguration, set to take place on 8 March 2021. Thanks to a generous sponsor, building is able to continue.
We look forward to being reunited with Regina in Switzerland. She plans to visit us here in December 2019.
