Dear sponsors and friends

In the last newsletter, we outlined the unsatisfactory situation with head teacher Peter Zirimu. In late summer, it became clear that it would be impossible to work with him. Since he was away as a tour guide with increasing frequency, he neglected his duties and in the end acted disloyally, even disruptively towards Regina, his colleagues and the entire school. In order to avoid additional salary costs, Regina called for the offending head teacher to resign. He did so, at least, but not without turning the pupils against Regina. The agitator left the BSSK campus under police control and has left the school alone since then.

Regina searched for an appropriate solution to fill the vacuum in senior leadership. A consulting firm for schools, who knew our director, made a suitable suggestion. A “special management team” made up of seven teachers has filled the gap since then. Each of these individuals is responsible for a section of the school and is remunerated appropriately for this. Regina’s experiences with this board have been good and she will allow them to continue their work in the new school year, which begins at the end of January.

At the beginning of the last school year, a nun, who was doing an internship, lived and worked at BSSK. Regina valued her because she could be assigned to a variety of tasks, and was tidy, reliable, diligent and loyal. At the end of the agreed period, the nun was required to return to her community, Dominikus Ringeisen-Werk Uganda, which has its roots in Germany. In order to ensure continuing collaboration, the house previously occupied by the dismissed head teacher was enlarged so that three nuns can live and work on the school campus as a small community. Currently, two teachers and a nurse have moved into the converted house and started work. We are optimistic that this collaboration has a bright future.

Problems with school fees are part of Regina’s everyday life. The parents’ payment discipline is poor. As a result, Regina decreed that only those pupils for whom the school fees had been paid in full for the past year would receive their certificate and be released for the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, the guard at the gate was not aware of this and some pupils and parents escaped. Regina bears the losses.

At the Annina Hänny school building, the floors have been laid on the ground floor and the windows have been put in. We look forward patiently to further interior construction in the spacious building.

While Regina continues to look forward to hot days, we are waiting for the actual winter.

Kind regards,
